Project Green Ball (PGB) recently participated in Global Youth Service Day for the second consecutive year. PGB exhibited and collected balls on April 11, 2014 at the boys and girls 12 and under USTA Level 6 Challenger Circuit Event at The Thoreau Club in Concord, MA. The Thoreau Club donated 1350 balls to PGB at the event. In addition, PGB exhibited and collected balls on April 19 at the boys and girls 12 and under USTA Level 6 Challenger Circuit Event at Sportsmans Tennis and Enrichment Center in Boston, MA. PGB received a $1,000 grant from Disney Friends for Change for planning and implementing the service project on Global Youth Service Day, a campaign of Youth Service America, and for Project Green Ball’s operations.
Project Green Ball is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to recycle used tennis balls and to donate surfaces based on the recycled balls to organizations servicing people with disabilities or life threatening diseases. PGB has collected over 130,000 balls from over 50 clubs, camps, schools and tennis facilities and hundred of individuals. PGB has 15 collection bins at clubs and tennis facilities throughout the United States. After PGB collects and delivers 200,000 balls to its turf provider, the provider will donate an equestrian turf to a therapeutic riding facility for people with disabilities.
