Project Green Ball (PGB) will participate for the second consecutive year in Global Youth Service Day. PGB will exhibit and collect balls on April 12, 2014 at the boys and girls 12 and under USTA Level 6 Challenger Circuit Event at The Thoreau Club in Concord, MA. PGB received a $500 grant from Disney Friends for Change for planning and implementing the service project on Global Youth Service Day, a campaign of Youth Service America, and for Project Green Ball’s operations.
Project Green Ball is a non-profit corporation whose mission is to recycle used tennis balls and to donate surfaces based on the recycled balls to organizations servicing people with disabilities or life threatening diseases. PGB has collected over 120,000 balls from over 50 clubs, camps, schools and tennis facilities and hundred of individuals. PGB has 15 collection bins at clubs and tennis facilities throughout the United States. After PGB collects and delivers 200,000 balls to its turf provider, the provider will donate an equestrian turf to a therapeutic riding facility for people with disabilities.
The Thoreau Club will donate all balls from the tournament to PGB and PGB will have a collection bin on site to collect balls from participants in the tournament. PGB will also be exhibiting sample ball-based equestrian turf and answering questions about tennis ball recycling. If you would like to volunteer at the event, please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. We hope to see you at the event!
